Access Statement

This access statement does not contain personal opinions as to our suitability for those with access needs but aims to accurately describe the facilities and services that we offer all our customers.

Introduction

The Boat House Kitchen & Bakery by Pom’s is situated in the village of Barton Under Needwood at the wonderful Barton Marina. We provide the perfect place to enjoy a coffee or Brunch and a Bakery. Also on the Marina site is a Cinema, Pub, Moorings & Retail Outlets.

M1

NORTH:

Leave M1 at J28 and take A38 south. Four miles past Burton-on-Trent, turn off for Barton-under-Needwood. Brown sign for Barton Marina first left after ½ mile.

SOUTH:

Leave M1 at J19 and take M6 to J4. Take A446 until it joins A38 and 8 miles north of Lichfield turn off at Barton-under-Needwood.

M6

NORTH:

Leave M5 at J4a for M42 and continue until coming off at J9. Take A446 until it joins A38 and 8 miles north of Lichfield turn off at Barton-under-Needwood.

SOUTH:

Leave M6 at J15 and keep on A50 until turning off for A38. Travel 10 miles south and turn off at Barton-under-Needwood.

BY CANAL

We are situated on the Trent & Mersey Canal between Alrewas and Burton upon Trent, just above Barton Lock (No. 10) and bridge 38.

The car park is Tarmacked and the overflow is a grassed area with paved paths from the disabled parking bays. The approach to the Restaurant itself is level with no steps at the entrance or throughout the shop and café. We have a fully wheelchair accessed loo for customers. We look forward to welcoming you. Before you Join us

You can plan your journey by car or public transport using www.transportdirect.info; simply enter your postcode and ours (DE13 8DZ) and that website will offer you travel options.
The nearest railway station is Burton On Trent which is approximately 4 miles away. Taxis are available from the station and can be pre booked, please see contact details above.
The nearest Bus Stop is in the centre of the village, There is a bench a next to some of the official bus stops where you can sit while waiting. Please note, not all buses have wheelchair access. For further information, please visit https://www.midlandclassic.com/routes-and-services/
The buses are to Burton on Trent and Lichfield – stopping at the villages on way – this depends on the route and services available please check Midlands Classic Website above the Bus numbers are 12X & 12
The Walk to the Bus Stop is out of the Marina though the foot path towards Efflinch lane or the main entrance to the main road using footpaths provided. Please ask the team we will be more than happy to assist further.
There are no steps to the entrance or throughout the building. The front entrance is usually propped open and if not, is manual with vertical handrails.
We can assist should you need any help to enter the Restaurant

If you are visiting us with young babies or toddlers that require space for a pram please make sure you include them in your booking and inform us in the booking requirements to make sure we can accommodate a pram at the time of the booking. We also at busy times might ask for prams to be kept outside.   

Inside Boat House by Pom’s

The Restaurant is accessed with level entry from the main entrance of the

We can assist should you need help in the Bakery area or to reach items to buy or browse.
The Restaurant has a mix of seating with armchairs as well as high backed chairs (without arms) and benches. Tables and chairs are well spaced apart in the café. Each table has floor to surface height 770 mm.
Lighting throughout the shop and café is mostly daylight through large windows and the Front door. There is also mixed lighting around with brighter spotlight where needed).
The flooring is Karndean in the Restaurant. The patio is fully flat paved and level along the Boardwalk of the Marina.
The Restaurant service is table service, but the Bakery is from the bar we can assist where necessary. There is also an order by phone option too if you prefer.

We do our best to cater for dietary requirements with gluten free items always on offer. Please speak to our staff on the day or contact us in advance to discuss your requirements. But we do use many of the allergens in our kitchen. So cannot guarantee any dish is free of any allergens.

Large print menus are available and specials on the day are on typed Changing Menus. All staff are happy to run through menus with you.
Crockery is a mix of white and blue, White & Oat Colour and will contrast with the pine table tops.
We play background music in the shop which is kept at an acceptable volume.

The patio area is flat and paved and all on one level.
The seating is chairs
The height of the outside tables is 750 mm
We offer full service to the outside tables.
Staff are on hand to offer assistance.

Customer Toilets

Our customer toilet is a unisex accessible toilet, are access through a level, wheelchair accessible corridor at the back of the Restaurant.
The accessible toilet has an entrance door width of 930 mm with level entry from the corridor.
The toilet height is 470 mm
There are hand rails adjacent to the toilet.
There is a low level mirror, sink and hand drying facilities.
There is an emergency pull cord
There is Baby Changing located as part of the Barton Marina just next door to The Boat House please ask a member of the team for further assitstance  

Other Information

All our staff receive regular training including disability awareness training.
We have a set of evacuation procedures; accessibility is taken into account as part of our fire assessment. Should you require assistance someone will come to your table and help you with evacuation either out of the building or to a refuge.
We welcome trained assistance dogs.

Free Wi-Fi Internet access is available throughout the restaurant.
